Our story
Our farm was started in 2025 on the banks of the West Boulder River in the foothills of the mountains of Montana. Farming and Ranching the prairies of our state is inbedded deep in our veins. We are both 5th generation ag based montanans. I don’t remember a summer not spent in the gardens of my mom, my grandmas, my great grandmas and eventually that of my mother in law. My plant growing genes run deep and now I get to share that passion and knowledge with you.
We are so fortunate to live where my Husband’s family has lived for over half a century. We want to acknowledge all those who came before us here in this tiny town and honor the mark they made in shaping our history. McLeod was first established as a mining settlement, named after W.F. McLeod. The first Post Office opened in 1886. In 1916, attempts to drill an oil well on the townsite revealed geothermic heated water, and a swimming pool was opened. Over the years the town has also included a hotel, dance hall, gas station, grocery and dry goods store, and vacation cabins. Although now all gone, they are not forgotten. Tending and expanding Judy’s gardens that she so lovingly established here is a legacy I hope continues for generations to come as our girls join us in this adventure.
Since purchasing the property in 2020, we have worked to transition the property to our home and to be able to live and support ourselves on the legacy we are lucky to live in. Growing peonies is part of this dream. We hope you join us on this journey to discover joy and beauty in these flowers. When you plant them, you don’t just plant a fleeting fancy, but a legacy for a lifetime.
Our peonies
We want to grow peonies that will be a timeless addition to your garden. These are not the peonies you will find every day at your local garden center or big box store. Our peonies will be those hard to find, rare, irresistible cultivars. The peonies we offer will be grown to be cold hardy and tough. If it thrives through our harsh long winters and short hot summers, then we are sure it will be just as productive in yours! We also value those peonies that are also fragrant and those that are strong stems. (Big hurray for no staking!) As we continue to add to our own stock of peony roots, we will also be offering high quality peony roots that we have sourced from reliable growers.
Perhaps the reason you are drawn to flowers is not only for their outer beauty, but because they remind you: Beautiful things will bloom, after the longest season of waiting.
